Briana Michele Mitchell is Chief Advancement Officer at Change Summer, where she leads fundraising, marketing, and institutional strategy for six summer programs serving more than 3,300 campers each year in partnership with charter school networks across the Mid-Atlantic, Northeast, and Midwest.
She is also President of S'more Summer, Change Summer's consultancy that partners with leaders and teams to bring more belonging — and more of the joy of summer — to youth programs across the country.
Briana joined Teach For America in 2008 and spent four years teaching sixth and seventh grade reading and writing in Houston ISD, where she also served as Department Chair and trained colleagues in Teachers College Reading & Writing Project practices. Following her time in the classroom, she held school and program leadership roles across Houston, Newark, and New York before joining Change Summer in 2019.
Today, she oversees Change Summer's advancement and communications strategy and leads the relationships with donors, foundations, and corporate partners who make the organization's work possible.
A Maret School alumna (Class of 2004) and graduate of the University of Southern California, Briana holds a B.A. in International Relations with a minor in Spanish, along with certificates in Nonprofit Leadership from Rice University and Women in Executive Leadership from Cornell University.
She lives in Charleston, South Carolina with her rescue pup Pickles and his sibling Niner.
